Updated COVID-19 Guidelines for Students |
The CDC and Massachusetts Department of Public Health have updated their recommendations for COVID-19 and moved to a more simplified and consistent approach to preventing and treating respiratory illnesses. A 5-day isolation is no longer required after testing positive for COVID-19. Phillips Academy has updated guidelines in the following ways that are more in line with our approach to other illnesses such as seasonal influenza.
If a student has symptoms of illness (which may include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache, fatigue) or has tested positive for COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and/or seasonal influenza, they should rest at home or in the wellness center until they are fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications, and until their symptoms are improving for at least 24 hours. They should also take additional precautions to minimize spread for at least five days. These include good hygiene practices (washing or sanitizing hands frequently, coughing/sneezing into a tissue, wearing a mask when sick/symptomatic with a respiratory illness), and increasing fresh air (through an air purifier, bringing in fresh air, or going outdoors). In addition, immunizations (such as seasonal influenza and COVID-19) are recommended for everyone.

Dr. Wang’s Keynote Address, “Three Gifts from Parents to Serve Our Children for a Lifetime”—TONIGHT, Thursday, April 4, at 7 p.m. in Kemper Auditorium
As parents, we are tasked with preparing our children for the future. We invest resources, time, and energy on things that we believe will set our children up for success and help them achieve their goals. This address will explore three specific gifts parents can offer their children to build resilience, help them achieve their goals, and help them see through the distractions that often keep us from a life of sustainable wellness.
This event is hosted by Parents of Students of Phillips Academy. The PSPA invites families to a pizza dinner catered by Otto at 6:30 p.m. in the Underwood Room.
Fireside Chat with Dr. Wang—Friday, April 5, at 7 p.m. in Kemper Auditorium
This fireside chat, moderated by PA student leaders, will explore mental health and wellness topics drawn from the Andover community and discuss how we can improve our mental health in a world that more often causes us to feel anxious and distressed. The audience will leave with tools that they can practice today to build better mental health for tomorrow. Free and open to the public.

It’s being touted as the astronomical event of the decade—and your student will be on campus for the April 8 total eclipse of the sun starting at 2:16 p.m. and concluding at 4:39 p.m. To facilitate safe viewing of this historic event, Andover-branded solar eclipse glasses will be distributed to the entire community. Adult community members are invited to stop by the Dean of Studies Office anytime between 7:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. to pick up the shades. Additionally, the astronomy club will set up a telescope with a solar filter in front of Paresky Commons for the duration of the event – campus community members are invited to stop by to check it out. PA Giving Day Recap: An Amazing Success |
|
|
The PA community showed up for Andover in a big way on PA Giving Day! As a community, we met and exceeded the Academy’s participation goal of 1,974 donors (1974 is a nod to Abbot & Andover at 50). More than 2,000 alumni, parents, grandparents, and friends from around the world participated in our annual day of giving, raising over $1.9 million in critical support for the Academy. These donations will fund financial aid scholarships, health and wellness initiatives, academic program innovations, support for athletics and student activities, and more.
PA parents and grandparents also stepped up in BIG BLUE fashion. A small group of current parents raised a record-high $100,000 match, which was completed within the first 12 hours of PA Giving Day! Plus, a $20,000 match just for first-time donors brought in over 100 new fiscal year donors. Over 500 past and current parents and grandparents made gifts to the Academy, supporting what they love.
On behalf of the entire Andover community, thank you to all who made a gift. The show of support from families this year was simply inspiring. And special thanks to our Andover Fund Parents Committee members for their efforts to encourage fellow parents to participate. Your enthusiasm was contagious, and we could not have done it without you!
