Faculty breakfast

On Monday morning, faculty were greeted by fresh coffee, bagels, pastry and a fabulous fruit display provided by the PSPA. As you can see in the picture, the Faculty Room table, usually used for grading papers, reading the Phillipian, and displaying notices, was transformed into a beautiful breakfast feast. On behalf of the faculty, thank you to the PSPA for this special treat!
Fun at All-School Meeting:
Please watch the May 4 all-school meeting on the Parent Portal. This annual faculty entertainment show is a cure for rainy-weather doldrums. Every day we encourage the students to step outside their comfort zone, try something new, develop confidence and find the joy in life. This week’s ASM was a chance for the teachers and administrators to practice what we preach. If laughter is the best medicine, we administered much more than the daily dose. No prescription necessary.
Independent Health Check Survey:
On May 18, Phillips Academy students will take the Independent Health Check Survey. The survey is largely derived from the Youth Risk & Behavior Survey (YRBS), a nationwide survey of high school students regarding their health habits and risk behaviors. The standardized survey was modified slightly to include questions that are specific to student life at boarding schools such as ours and delete questions that are not applicable. Our sister boarding schools are administrating the same survey this spring, which will allow us to compare our students’ responses with other similar student populations. In addition to collecting information concerning adolescent drug and alcohol use, this survey will provide us with information about our students’ emotional well being, sleep patterns and sexual behavior. Over the next few months, we will review the findings of the survey to see what implications they have in terms of our student support services and our current health education program. If you have questions about the survey, please contact Dr. Max Alovisetti, Co-Chair of the Community Health Team at malovisetti@andover.edu.
