Welcome to the New School Year! |
The academic year is off to a great start: Students are excited to be on campus, reuniting with old friends and making new ones. Faculty and staff are energized, ready to teach and learn, and eager to get to know your child.
Classes Begin Tomorrow (Friday): Shortly before the start of classes, Head of School Raynard Kington, MD, PhD, P’24, ’27, will join the Class of 2026 for the annual Vista Walk, which begins near Main Street and processes along the Chandler-Wormley Vista to the steps of Samuel Phillips Hall. Started by 14th head of school Barbara Landis Chase, this tradition previews the path seniors will walk at Commencement on May 31.
Closed Campus: This first week of the new school year is a “closed campus.” That means no car permissions or day or overnight excuses will be granted for boarding students to leave campus through Sunday, September 7. All students are required to attend cluster meetings on Friday evening, Cluster Olympics on Saturday, and class events and meetings on Sunday—important opportunities to get to know one another, build community, and have fun with their classmates.

Academic Integrity: How You Can Help
|
At the start of each term, students will engage in programming to help them better understand the principles and practices of academic integrity. Programming includes discussion of academic integrity in each class and advising group, and it concludes with each student confirming their understanding of the parameters of doing good intellectual work in an academic community.
While each student is responsible for adhering to the rules and guidelines governing academic integrity, there are three ways parents/guardians can help:
|
-
Please wait until your child has submitted an assignment before you engage with their work. Every idea, piece of data, word, punctuation mark, etc., must be the student’s own. When giving an assignment, teachers make explicit the resources that students may use to complete the work. In general, students may not receive help on any assignment from family, friends, tutors, the internet, or artificial intelligence tools unless given specific permission by their teacher.
- Please note that, as the Course of Study states, each student is the only person permitted to use their Phillips Academy credentials. No one else, including parents/guardians, may access a student’s Phillips Academy email, PAnet, or Canvas sites.
-
If your child is uncertain about the parameters of an assignment or is feeling overwhelmed, please encourage them to contact their teachers for help, which may include requesting an extension. It is always better to receive a lower grade on an assignment or receive no credit for completing it than to violate the Academy’s rules regarding academic integrity. Throughout the year, all students have access to a range of great resources, including their teachers, who are available during Conference Periods; the Academic Skills Center, located in Pearson Hall; the evening Writing Center, located in the library; and the Math/Science Center, located in Morse Hall.

Student Medication Policy |
Beginning this fall, our school is implementing a revised medication policy for both boarding and day students to enhance safety and oversight. All medications—including prescription, over-the-counter, vitamins, and supplements—must be registered with the Wellness Center. Most will be stored and dispensed by Wellness staff. Only a few low-risk medications (e.g., topical creams, oral contraceptives, rescue medications) may be approved for dorm use on a case-by-case basis.
All families are required to complete the PA Student Medication Policy and Acknowledgement Form (both the prescription and over-the-counter forms). If your student doesn't take medication, please indicate that on each form. To register your student’s prescription medications, please have the healthcare provider who prescribes and monitors the medication complete the Medication Order Form. Documents should be uploaded to your students Medicat health record.
Questions? Email the Sykes Wellness Center. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and supportive campus environment.

REACH is a student management system used to track student leaves and on-campus locations. Students submit requests for overnight stays, college visits, dean’s excuses, group leaves, and to indicate their location during study hours.
Leave requests in REACH require adult approval, and most must be approved by a parent/guardian. Parents/guardians do not have REACH accounts; instead, they receive an email from noreply@reachboarding.com asking them to either Approve or Reject the request. Only one parent or guardian's approval is needed for the request to move forward to the next level (house counselor or cluster dean).
Each leave request includes detailed information such as destination, dates, times, and transportation. If a parent or guardian declines the request, it is automatically cancelled.
For questions or more information about REACH, please contact Claudia Scofield.

Shipping Packages to Your Student |
At the start of a new school year, Mail Services receives and processes a very large volume of incoming mail and packages for students. As a reminder, all items should be sent to this central address (not to dorms):
|
Student’s FULL Name (no nicknames, please)
Phillips Academy
Dormitory Name
180 Main Street
Andover, MA 01810
|
Students may retrieve mail and small parcels from their student mailbox. For boarders, large items are delivered to the common room of student dorms. Please review the Mailroom Policies to learn what items cannot be accepted.
