End-of-Term Schedule & Details

As we approach the end of the Term 1 (fall term), please note the following:

Friday, November 10: This a conference day (a Monday schedule). Teachers will be available in their classrooms during the regularly scheduled time. These are “open hours”; students can come and go as needed.
|
From Monday, November 13, through Friday, November 17, each class will meet once, according to the special schedule below. All classes will meet in person, and attendance is required for all students.
|
- Monday, November 13: Period 7 meets 8:30–10:30 a.m.; Period 4 meets 12:30–2:30 p.m. Athletics and rehearsals follow.
- Tuesday, November 14: Period 5 meets 8:30–10:30 a.m.; some World Languages* meet 12:30–2:30 p.m. Athletics and rehearsals follow.

Wednesday, November 15: Period 3 meets 8:30–10:30 a.m. Tournaments, athletics, and rehearsals follow.
- Thursday, November 16: Period 6 meets 8:30–10:30 a.m.; some science classes** meet 12:30–2:30 p.m. Athletics and rehearsals follow.

Term 1 ends at 3 p.m. on Friday, November 17. All fall term work must be submitted no later than 3 p.m.; instructors are not permitted to accept any additional work from a student after that time. Any possible exception to these policies—if a student falls ill, has a family emergency, etc.—must be approved by the director of studies in collaboration with the chief medical officer.

- All students may depart campus after 2:30 p.m. on Friday, November 17.
- All boarding students must depart campus
by noon on Saturday, November 18 (except for students involved in post-season play).

- Traveling with PA Instrument Rentals

Please note that rentals from PA’s collection are generally not permitted to leave campus and requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Requests to travel with your PA instrument rental (by car, only) must be received by Friday, November 10. Please email Dr. Jessica McCormack

Music students who have rented an instrument and who will not be taking music lessons or participating in an ensemble during the winter term must return their instrument by Monday, November 13. Instruments not returned by this day will accrue fines. If you have questions about renting an instrument, please contact Mr. Carl Johnson in the W.B. Clift Music Library.

Friday, December 15 at 5 p.m. is the ADD/DROP deadline for Winter Term lessons. If students are interested in lessons and they did not request them during advising period, please complete a request here. Kindly note that lessons do not roll over to the next term. Thanksgiving Break & Winter Break Travel |
Phillips Academy will offer transportation at Thanksgiving and Winter breaks to and from New York City, with a stop in Darien, Connecticut. Students can sign up for one-way travel ($100) or round-trip ($160). Buses will depart at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 17, and return Tuesday, November 28, departing NYC at 11 a.m.
Drop-off and pick-up occur at the southbound (to NYC) and northbound (to Andover) service plazas in Darien and at Dock 2 at the Port Authority Bus South Terminal in New York City. Bus forms and answers to travel questions are located in 2023–2024 Information for Families under Transportation Information for Thanksgiving and Winter breaks. This information has also been posted on PAnet for student access.
For transportation to Logan (Boston) and Manchester (N.H.) airports or Boston’s South Station, arrangements can be made with private taxi and limousine service providers. A list of service providers regularly used by members of the PA community is available in 2023–2024 Information for Families.

Yearbook Message Deadline Nov. 15 |
Parents of seniors: Express pride and love and congratulate your soon-to-be-graduate with a fun and heartfelt “family message” in the Pot Pourri yearbook. Choose from several sizes (full-color or black and white) and include your own special message and photo(s). Simply click Yearbook Order Center to create your ad and submit payment. Family message submission deadline is Wednesday, November 15.

- 6:00 p.m.— Protestant Worship – Led by the Reverend Gina M. Finocchiaro, Protestant Chaplain. This week will feature PA’s Gospel Choir, under the direction of Michael Belcher. All are welcome for this time of scripture, prayer, and spoken reflection. Cochran Chapel.

6:15 p.m.— Catholic Mass All are welcome to join the PA Catholic community for Mass on Sunday evenings when school is in session. Overseen by Dr. Mary Kantor, Catholic chaplain, with presider Fr. Jack O’Brien and other guest priests from the Archdiocese of Boston. Student leaders participate in liturgical roles as lectors, Eucharistic ministers, and musicians, and help with hospitality. Mass is followed by hospitality and fellowship with snacks and refreshments, and sometimes short programming by Catholic Student Fellowship (CSF) leaders.
