As we approach the last week of fall term, please note:
- Monday, November 15, is a conference day. Teachers will be available in their classrooms during the regularly scheduled time. These are “open hours.” Students do not need to attend and can come and go as desired.
- From Tuesday, November 16, through Friday, November 19, each class will meet once, according to the special schedule provided above. All classes will meet in person, and attendance is required for all students.
- Fall term ends at 3 p.m. on Friday, November 19. No teacher may accept any additional work from a student after that time.
- Any possible exception to these policies—if a student falls ill, has a family emergency—must be approved by the director of studies in collaboration with the medical director.
- At the start of next term (winter term), we will post a reminder to check your child’s course schedule/exam schedule to ensure conflicts do not arise.
End-of-Term Grades: Fall term grades and comments will be posted on The Hive on Wednesday, November 24. If you have trouble accessing The Hive, please email the Help Desk.

Health and Wellness Update
As of Wednesday, November 10, the PA campus/community’s COVID-19 transmission level is Green (lowest risk). The campus testing positivity rate in the past seven days is 0%. Please visit our COVID-19 Testing Dashboard for further information from Dr. Amy Patel, Sykes Wellness Center medical director.
We anticipate remaining in the Green risk zone through the end of fall term unless data indicates otherwise.
COVID-19 testing for travel: If your child needs a COVID-19 test prior to the upcoming breaks, please have them schedule an appointment at the Sykes Wellness Center through their health portal account. Here is additional COVID-19 Travel Testing Information.
Sykes Wellness Center Thanksgiving Break hours: November 22 & 23, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; November 24, 25 & 26, closed for the holiday; November 29 & 30, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; December 1, back to regular operation hours, 8 a.m.–5 p.m. with a nurse on staff 24/7.
- Testing: All students will be tested twice for COVID-19 at the Sykes Wellness Center—on Thursday, December 2, and Monday, December 6.
- Quarantine: When boarding students return to campus on Wednesday, December 1, we will be in the Orange zone (modified campus arrival quarantine) through Wednesday, December 8. Details of the modified campus quarantine will be communicated with students prior to their arrival.
- Dining/off-campus permissions: We plan to keep dining open in Paresky Commons through all zones unless data suggests a campus outbreak. We do not expect to offer routine off-campus permissions (outside of school-sponsored programming) for the weekends of December 4 & 5 and December 11 & 12. Students should plan to remain on campus both weekends. We will reassess the risk zone on December 8.
- Looking ahead to January: We expect a similar approach to testing, risk zone determination, and limited off-campus permissions when students return to campus on January 3 after winter break.
Encourage your student to get their flu shot! Students can still make an appointment for a flu shot by calling the Sykes Wellness Center at 978-749-4455. If your child received the flu vaccine elsewhere, please send documentation to sykeswellness@andover.edu.
Physical examinations due? If your child’s physical exam has expired or is about to expire, please schedule an appointment with their primary care doctor during the upcoming breaks.

Reminder from the Comptroller's Office
Please be sure to review your student’s account on FACTS, our online student billing portal, to ensure your account is current. Your balance may include additional fall charges, payments, and credits. If you elected a two-payment plan, please note that all outstanding tuition balances are due in full by Monday, November 15. If you have already reviewed your student’s account and taken appropriate actions, thank you. If your student still has an outstanding balance, please remit your payment through the FACTS system by November 15 so that your student’s account can be cleared for winter term.
For your convenience, you can make payments on the FACTS portal by using your bank account or credit card (a 2.85% convenience fee is applied for credit card payments). New this year, FACTS has partnered with Western Union to allow international payments to be made directly on the FACTS site. Questions? Please email Tina Rioux, bursar.

What does the general public think about archaeology and archaeologists? Probably the work of people with an Indiana Jones–like flare and probably a cis-gender white man. Oré Menéndez will explain what queer theory is and how queering archaeology is opening the discipline to alternative ways of doing archaeology and being an archaeologist.
