Key Winter Term Dates- Return to campus: Boarding students return Wednesday, December 1, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. (See next section for more about return travel to PA from New York City.)
- Quarantine: When boarding students return to campus on Wednesday, December 1, we will be in the Orange risk zone (modified campus arrival quarantine) through Wednesday, December 8. Details of the modified campus quarantine will be communicated with students prior to their arrival. We will reassess the campus community’s risk zone on December 8.
- COVID-19 testing: All students will be tested twice for COVID-19 at the Sykes Wellness Center—on Thursday, December 2, and Monday, December 6.
- Classes begin: Term 2 (winter term) classes begin for all students on Thursday, December 2.
- Attendance: Students are expected to attend all classes between December 2 and December 15. No students are permitted to be excused from class prior to December 15. Any possible exception to these policies—if a student falls ill or has a family emergency—must be approved by the cluster dean (for family emergencies) or Sykes Wellness Center staff (for illness or medical emergencies).
- Dining: We plan to keep dining open in Paresky Commons through all zones unless data suggests a campus outbreak.
- Off-campus permissions: We do not expect to offer routine off-campus permissions (outside of school-sponsored programming) for the weekends of December 4 & 5 and December 11 & 12. Students should plan to remain on campus both weekends.
- The last day of classes/beginning of winter break: Wednesday, December 15, is the last day of classes. Students may leave for winter break after their final class; all students must be off campus by 12 noon on Thursday, December 16.
- Looking ahead to January: We expect a similar approach to testing, risk zone determination, and limited off-campus permissions for the first two weeks when students return to campus after winter break on Monday, January 3.

Return Travel from NYC after Thanksgiving
There has been tremendous interest from families in using the PA-sponsored bus service to/from New York City and Darien, Conn., at Thanksgiving break. There are no longer any seats available on either the outgoing bus on Friday, November 19, or the return bus, on Wednesday, December 1.
If you need transportation for your student, you will need to explore alternatives: Using C&J Bus Lines’ public transportation may be an option. This is the bus company we use. They use the same dock at the Port Authority, departure times are similar to ours, and their bus terminal is located in Tewksbury, Mass.—the next town over. If you have questions or concerns, email Claudia Scofield. We may be able to assist.

A-E Rivalry Returns!
“If the prolonged pause of the fall edition of the nation’s oldest prep rivalry had any effect on either school’s spirits,” writes PA sports information director David Fricke, “it was in the form of increased enthusiasm.”
Photos, from left: Varsity volleyball wins a hard-fought opening set; Andover Head of School Raynard Kington P’24 and Phillips Exeter Principal Bill Rawson meet midfield in Phelps Stadium; Big Blue fans make noise. Hundreds of photos of Saturday’s competitions, student-athletes, and fans are available for viewing and downloading here.

Health and Wellness
As of Wednesday, November 17, the PA campus/community’s COVID-19 transmission level continues to be Green (lowest risk). The campus testing positivity rate in the past seven days is 0%. Please visit our COVID-19 Testing Dashboard for further information from Dr. Amy Patel, Sykes Wellness Center medical director.
Sykes Wellness Center Thanksgiving Break hours: November 22 & 23, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; November 24, 25 & 26, closed for the holiday; November 29 & 30, 8 a.m.–5 p.m.; December 1, back to regular operation hours.
Encourage your student to get their flu shot! Students can still make an appointment for a flu shot by calling the Sykes Wellness Center at 978-749-4455. If your child received the flu vaccine elsewhere, please email documentation to the wellness center.
Physical examination due? If your child’s physical exam has expired or is about to expire, please schedule an appointment with their primary care doctor during the upcoming breaks. Remember, your student must have a current physical on file at the Sykes Wellness Center. (“Current” means the exam must have taken place within the past 13 months.)

Information on Transcript Requests
Many students are beginning to think about summer programs. If your student needs a copy of their unofficial transcript for an application, they should email the registrar. Students immerse themselves in exciting classes—like Neuropsychology, Entrepreneurship, Great Issues and Controversies of the Modern World, and Art as Action: Murals of the 21st Century—explore new interests, take a step outside their comfort zone, and satiate their curiosity for learning. With over 60 courses offered among three distinct institutes, there is something to satisfy every kind of student.
Andover Summer programs are open to rising 7th- through 12th-graders and offer great opportunities for younger siblings to get a taste of life at Andover. (Current PA students are also welcome!) Our application is now online for summer 2022.
