Summer 2023 LITW Apps Due Jan. 9
The deadline to apply to Learning in the World (LITW) programs that take place next summer is Monday, January 9. Your student should submit their application via our online portal. Please visit the LITW website to learn more about our current offerings.
- Affiliate programs: Students should apply directly to affiliate programs now. Separate entities from LITW, each affiliate program has its own specific deadlines and requirements. An “expression of interest” in an affiliate program should be submitted by your student via our online portal by January 23. This expression of interest helps the LITW office coordinate with students and families on pre- and post-program actions and support them in the financial aid process.
- Spring Break programs: The deadline to apply to LITW programs that take place over Spring Break (March 4–20) was December 5.
- Financial assistance: Need-based financial assistance is available for PA-sponsored and affiliate programs. Please email Andréa Gerakaris in the Office of Admission with specific inquiries.

PreACT Exam for 10th-Graders
A PreACT exam—a preview to the ACT exam—will be held for 10th-graders on Saturday, January 21. Testing the same skills and knowledge, the PreACT can be a predictor of how one would score if they took the ACT. This test does not count in the admissions process and scores are only sent to students. PreACT results together with the PSAT can be a guide toward the standardized test a student pursues in the college admissions process.
Registration for the PreACT ends at noon on Wednesday, December 14. For complete details, click here.

Health & Wellness
COVID-19 bivalent booster: Phillips Academy requires that students be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccination by January 4, 2023. This includes any boosters (such as the new bivalent booster) that have been added to meet the CDC definition of “up to date.”
COVID-19 boosters for age 12 and up have now moved to the bivalent formulation, which includes coverage against both the original SARS-CoV-2 strain as well as the more recent omicron variants. Pfizer has a bivalent booster available for individuals who are 12 years of age or older; the Moderna bivalent booster is available for individuals who are 18 or older.
Wellness Center holiday hours: The Sykes Wellness Center administrative operating hours during Winter Break are 9 a.m.–2 p.m. from Monday, December 19, through Thursday, December 22, and on Tuesday, January 3. We will be closed Friday, December 23, through Monday, January 2. Regular operating hours will resume Wednesday, January 4.

It’s School Picture Time
Mark Lawrence Photographers will be back on campus next week. School pictures are not required—but we know that some families appreciate the opportunity. If you would like your child to have their photo taken, please remind them of the dates and times below.
Important! ALL student portraits taken by Mark Lawrence Photographers will automatically be sent to the Pot Pourri yearbook for publication. If your student does not have Mark Lawrence take their photo or does not submit a photo (seniors only), their BlueCard ID photo will be used in the yearbook.
Schedule for Senior Photos
Senior yearbook portraits and retakes will take place in Paresky Commons (lower left dining hall) on Tuesday, December 13, and Wednesday, December 14, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. There is a sitting fee of $40 (no fee for retakes), which is payable only by student BlueCard. Senior photo sessions take around 10 minutes and offer several different backgrounds and poses. Most seniors choose formal attire for their photo, but the school does not require any type of dress code.
Proofs of senior portraits will be emailed to families with the option to purchase prints. Your senior will receive a link to sign up for a photo session time; this form will also ask if we can share parent emails with Mark Lawrence Photographers.
Please note: Seniors may also submit their own photograph for the yearbook. Most seniors choose a “traditional” head-and-shoulders pose in front of a neutral background, but they may choose whatever they prefer. Photos taken by another photographer should be emailed to Chris Capano, director of Student Activities, by Sunday, January 1. Photos should be the highest resolution possible (at least 300 dpi) and not have a photographer’s watermark.
Schedule for Photos of 9th-, 10th-, and 11th-Graders
Mark Lawrence Photographers will be in Paresky Commons (lower left dining hall) on Thursday, December 15, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to take photos of non-seniors. There is no sitting fee, and photos will only take about a minute—your student can just stop by when they are having lunch and get their picture taken. Proofs are not created unless your student makes a request. Please contact Mark Lawrence Photographers directly at 603-882-0116 to inquire about proofs and photo packages.

PA Visitor/Guest Health & Safety Guidelines
On-Campus Visitors: In consideration of the health and safety of visitors and our campus community, we expect visitors to be up to date with COVID vaccination, if eligible. Any visitor who is ineligible or has a medical or religious exemption must mask indoors at all times when on campus. We expect visitors to stay off campus if they have any symptoms of illness and to mask if they develop any symptoms while on campus. We expect visitors to mask at all times or stay off campus if they are a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID in the last 10 days. In the spirit of non sibi (not for self), the Academy trusts that campus visitors will follow these guidelines.
Guests at Off-Campus/Regional Events: In consideration of the health and safety of our Andover community, we ask attendees to be up to date with COVID vaccination. We require all attendees to adhere to the public health guidelines established by the CDC and your state and local health officials, as well as to follow venue guidelines and regulations that are in place at the time of the event. Venue-specific guidelines will be shared close to the event date. Prior to attending, we ask that you monitor your health. If you are feeling unwell, please plan to stay home. In the spirit of non sibi, the Academy trusts that those in attendance will follow these guidelines.
